Invitation to Eleanor Kouri Vandruff’s Memorial Service

Eleanor and JV on Wedding Day in 1952

The following was sent out by Eleanor’s husband, JV Vandruff, as an invitation to her memorial service on November 15, 2009.

Friends & Family:

“Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints.” (Psalm 116:15)

Eleanor Vandruff has left us to be with the Lord in heaven... joining countless friends and the Kouri family, all 8 of whom preceded her.  She moved to heaven on Nov 2nd, 2009 at the age of 89.

For many years, Eleanor had Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, which finally took over her brain and muscles, resulting in a series of comas.  At the end of her life, with peace and absolute assurance of her eternal destiny, she was still adorable, radiant and loving.   Her life was spectacular and we were all blessed by it... I most of all.

Though physically difficult, this past year was one of the sweetest in over 57 years of being together.  As you can see from the picture, we spent hours cuddled up in our oversized chair every day.

Through this process of the body gradually dying, I’ve learned much about care, patience, mercy, and about trusting God.  I now know how the Lord intended joy and sorrow to coexist.

Eleanor and Jean Valjean on Mother's Day in 2009 After spending a few days in a hospital in September, she spent her last days in comfort at home listening to, and occasionally singing along with, Christian hymns.

She died as she lived: in beauty, loveliness and serene peace.  We will all miss her sparkling presence, especially me.

A memorial service to celebrate Eleanor’s life will be held on Sunday afternoon, November 15, 2009.

About 15 years ago, I found a beautiful sympathy card that sums it up. I hope it blesses your heart also.

Love to all.
